Fairfield County Economic Development Director Earns State’s Premier Certification

Fairfield County Economic Development is proud to announce that Director Ann Broadwater has earned the South Carolina Certified Economic Developer (SCCED) designation, the state’s premier professional certification for economic development practitioners.

Awarded through the South Carolina Economic Developers’ Association (SCEDA), the SCCED designation recognizes individuals who have demonstrated advanced knowledge, leadership, and commitment to fostering economic growth in South Carolina.

“We are appreciative of all that Ms. Broadwater has done for this County,” said Clarence Gilbert, Fairfield County Council Chairman. “Her receiving this award speaks volumes of her commitment to being the best in what she does. We are proud of her.”

“Ms. Broadwater’s achievement is indicative of the quality and professionalism she displays every day,” said Fairfield County Administrator Vic Carpenter. “Fairfield County and its citizens are fortunate to have her as a member of our team.”

Since joining Fairfield County Economic Development, Broadwater has led initiatives resulting in more than $161 million in new capital investment and over 300 new jobs across the county. Her SCCED certification further strengthens Fairfield County’s capacity to support business retention, expansion, and recruitment.

“This certification reinforces my commitment to advancing Fairfield County’s growth with strategy and purpose,” said Ann Broadwater. “Economic development is about more than investment—it’s about building communities where people and businesses can thrive for generations.”

The South Carolina Certified Economic Developer program, established by SCEDA in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Commerce, provides a comprehensive curriculum that covers community development, business recruitment, workforce development, and strategic planning.

Fairfield County Economic Development remains committed to promoting business growth and enhancing the economic vitality of the community through leadership, partnerships, and innovation.
